Lesson March 9, 2007

Luke Chapter 15 has 3 sections in which Jesus is talking to tax collectors, sinners, Pharisees and scribes. Through parables, God teaches us lessons and principles of life. The first part (verses 1-7) is the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Verse 7 tells us that there is joy in heaven when a person repents. The second part (verses 8-10) is the Parable of the Lost Coin. At that time, Palestinian women would receive 10 silver coins as a wedding gift. These valuable coins had sentimental values, like a wedding ring. Just as a woman would rejoice over finding a lost coin, angels will rejoice over a repentant sinner. The third section is the Parable of the Lost Son, verse 11-32, one of the most well-known of all the Parables. It has many important lessons for us. We encourage you to read over the parable of the Lost Son everyday, very carefully, this week. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in understanding what God is saying. What is the theme of these 3 parables?
Memory Verse of the Week: Luke 15:10
“In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
